Artists’ Open Studios Day: Free Public Event

Saturday 5th December 2009, 12pm – 5.30pm
All Welcome

On Saturday 5th December between 12pm – 5.30pm, twenty artists working at Temple Bar Gallery & Studios will open their studio doors wide, inviting the public in to visit their work spaces and providing first hand experience of their artwork and art practice.

The participating artists who will welcome the public into their studios are: Robert Armstrong, Rhona Byrne, Colin Crotty, Cora Cummins, Anita Delaney, Mike Duhan, Sean Fingleton, Damien Flood, Mark Garry, Stephen Gunning, Joe Hanly, Fiona McDonald, Mark McGreevy, Dennis McNulty, Seamus Nolan, Niamh O’Malley, Holly Periera, Sonia Shiel and Margaret Tuffy. Curator Padraic E. Moore, who occupies the Curator/Art Writer’s Studio, will be at hand to answer questions about contemporary art and to talk about the artists that excite him and recent exhibitions that he found interesting.

In addition to the open studios, there will be a separate presentation of work by the artist Niamh O’Malley, whose recent work Flag (2008) will be exhibited in Studio 6. Flag is a DVD projection onto black screen, which has previously been exhibited in HIAP Project Room, Helsinki, 2008, Galleri Flach-Thulin, Stockholm, 2009 and Void, Derry, Northern Ireland, 2009. Niamh O’Malley made the work while on residency at HIAP–Helsinki International Artist-in-residence Programme in October-December 2008, as part of the annual artist exchange partnership between Temple Bar Gallery and Studios and HIAP.

Elsewhere, in the gallery, artist Aleana Egan’s solo exhibition Sunday Night, which is curated by Padraic E. Moore, will continue until Saturday 16th January 2010.
